Mariposas
El Calafate, Argentina, 2021
Located on the shores of Lago Argentino, this project proposes a series of residential prototypes conceived as light architectural pieces carefully placed within the Patagonian landscape.
The concept is inspired by the idea of a “butterfly”: two inclined planes that open towards the horizon, framing panoramic views while protecting the interior from prevailing winds. The geometry is not merely formal but strategic, optimizing natural light, solar orientation, and the relationship between interior space and the vast surrounding territory.
The units gently rest on the terrain, minimizing intervention and preserving the natural topography. Robust, understated materials respond to the extreme climate and echo the tones of the landscape, while expansive glazing transforms the scenery into an integral part of the living experience.
The project explores an essential and repeatable architectural system, adaptable to different configurations and scales, yet maintaining a strong identity rooted in place.
