Matsarigi Foundation School
Kenya, 2020 – Schème Design
This self-sustaining school was conceived as a phased project for the Matsarigi Foundation in Kenya. Designed to grow over time according to available resources, the masterplan establishes a flexible framework that allows the campus to expand without losing coherence.
Built with locally sourced materials and simple construction techniques, the project prioritizes durability, climate responsiveness and low maintenance. Rammed earth walls provide thermal mass, while generous roof overhangs and shaded courtyards create protected outdoor learning spaces.
At its heart, a central courtyard fosters community and interaction. The architecture is both pragmatic and symbolic: a sustainable structure that supports education, local identity and long-term development.
